The Manurewa Marlins are through to the Women’s Premiership Grand Final after downing Pt Chevalier 22-14 in the qualifying semi-final.

Veteran back Amber Kani was among the standouts for coach Rusty Matua’s side.

Pt Chevalier now face a must-win semi against Ponsonby next week to decide who joins Manurewa in the decider.

Manurewa’s Women’s Championship side thrashed the Tuakau Broncos 68-8 with Alexis Hapuku and Kiwi Ferns great Sarina Clark both scoring three times.

The result keeps the Marlins within touching distance of Taniwharau at the top of the ladder. 

Taniwharau triumphed over Manukau as the southern outfit ran out 28-18 winners.

Howick proved too strong on home turf for Otara, taking a 40-14 win, with Mel Weilert and Aimee Topia crossing for a pair tries. 

The Hornets got the job done despite having only 13 players at their disposal.

In SAS Premiership men’s action the Howick Hornets blew a handy lead late to draw 28-28 with Marist.

Marist overcame a 22-12 deficit midway through the second half to power home with three late tries.

The Otahuhu Leopards edged the Mangere East Hawks 22-16 at Walter Massey Park to chalk up win number eight for the year and ensure they remain inside the competition’s top four.

Earlier scores had been locked at 6-6.

The Papakura Sea Eagles kept their hopes of a top-four finish alive with a 36-14 win over the Hibiscus Coast Raiders in Fox Championship play.

The Raiders had clawed back to trail just 22-14 in the second half before Papakura powered home.

Richmond outlasted Manukau in the battle of the competition’s two unbeaten sides, to assume the outright lead of the Fox Championship with a 28-22 win.

Manukau had jumped out to the initial lead before the Bulldogs fought back.

The Northcote Tigers handed the Otara Scorpions a crucial loss in their match with the Tigers winning 28-20.

Te Atatu thumped Pakuranga Jaguars 40-0 in a big blow for the latter’s chances of a top four finish.
