Manukau City and Southern Counties finished their Spark Regional Competition on a high after morale-boosting wins on the weekend.

Manukau City bowlers James Naylor (4-18) and Oscar Anderson (4-8) reduced Star University to tatters in a devastating spell of bowling that led to the home side being rolled for just 57 after winning the toss and batting at Galloway Park.

Manukau City made short work of the chase, reaching the target in the 10th over and losing just one wicket on the way.

Karaka warmed up for the semi-finals with an eight wicket win over Te Awamutu at Karaka Sports Complex also in Pool B.

Spinners Shaneil Patel-Ponda (3-29) and Andrew Mackenzie (3-25) did the majority of the damage with the ball while skipper Luke Williamson’s unbeaten 81 powered the run-chase.

Karaka finishes top and will host Hamilton Old Boys at Karaka Sports Complex in the semi-finals.

Pankaj Kumar took 4-43 as Weymouth restricted Hamilton Old Boys to 262-5 batting first in their Pool B contest.

Opener Aryandeep Mann got Weymouth off to a reasonable start, but he was unable to find partners that could stick with him and Weymouth were eventually bowled out for 172.

Pukekohe Metro confirmed top spot in Pool A with a 50-run win over Marist Suburbs at Bledisloe Park.

The home side made 190 all out, bowled out off the penultimate ball of the innings after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

James Kingham (46) and Fraser Farrell (38) were the leading scorers.

Wickets were shared around as Pukekohe Metro bowled their opponents out for 140 – Kurt Barnes, Declan O’Brien, David Kingham and Adil Somani each grabbing a brace.

Pukekohe will host Marist Suburbs in the Pool A semi-final.

Papakura were thumped by eight wickets by Melville – bowled out for just 89 before the Hamilton outfit reached the total in the 18th over after losing just two wickets.

Southern Counties picked up a narrow four-run win over Hamilton Boys after they successfully defended their total of 133-9.

Fast bowlers Andrew Goodare (5-30) and Joseph Shuker (5-36) split the spoils – the pair ripping through the Hamilton Boys line-up to steal victory.
