Pukekohe racer Liam Lawson has finished on the podium in the final Super Formula race of the season and is the series runner-up.

Lawson, who made his Formula 1 debut this season with AlphaTauri, was in a three-way battle for the title heading into the weekend.

His chances of winning were not helped by a red flagged sprint race, taking away a precious chance to gain additional points.

He finished second in Sunday’s feature but a third place finish for Ritomo Miyata was enough to secure the title by eight points from Lawson.

Lawson will continue to be a reserve driver in Formula with speculation he is being lined up for a full-time seat in 2025.
