Gallaher Park in Manurewa will play host to the inaugural Pā Pasifika – a junior touch carnival scheduled for Sunday June 12.

The event is free, focused on fun and the community, something Pacific Cup Sports Trust and organiser Harley Wall says is long overdue,

“It’s been so long since our inaugural, and only, Pacific Cup event in 2019. every event since then has been cancelled due to the impact of Covid lockdowns – we’re just so excited about bringing our tamariki touchies together for an afternoon of skills sessions, fun games… and of course celebrating culture and community”

The event will be presented in partnership with the five Pacific Nations that make up the key Pacific Cup event in November – Cook Islands, Pacific Māori, Tonga, Samoa & Niue – with each Nation having a presence on the day and an involvement in how it will run.

“It’s important that our community understand this kaupapa is driven by our Nations, our kids need to see themselves reflected in how we roll out both Pā Pasifika, and Pacific Cup – this event is for us, by us and will always be focused on our people” adds Wall.

The day will include skills & drills for tamariki aged 14 and under, and all tamariki are welcome to attend and participate. There will be a free sausage sizzle for all in attendance, and games and activities in addition to the fun on field.

“This is a touch based carnival, but it’s a fun focused kaupapa first – whether your tamariki has played before, or are new to our sport – please register them, and come along. This day is free for all and will be a free for all!” says Wall.
