Papakura-based Kiwi rally driver Kingsley Jones has revealed a stunning new black and bright green livery on his Skoda Fabia R5 car.

Jones, who finished runner-up in the most recent New Zealand Rally Championship round in the Waikato late last year, spent time at purpose-built Jack’s Ridge stage in Brookby earlier this week.

It was there that he showed off the new design for the first time – replacing the predominantly white car he ran in the national championship last year.

“Day one it was always supposed to be black but the ship was late [bringing the car to New Zealand],” Jones told Counties Sports Hub. “Basically it arrived in the country on the Wednesday and we did our first rally in it on the Friday so it never had the chance to go to the painters.

“We have gone with the Auckland Denture Clinic because it is my wife’s company. We might as well promote something until we get a paying sponsor.

“We did this scheme up and I think it looks really good.”

Jones and co-driving wife Waverley will tackle the Battle of Jack’s Ridge event in November but have a number of other rallies to do before then.

“My dance card is pretty full from now until Christmas time,” Jones explained. “We have gone from a glut to a weekend after weekend sort of thing.

“We have a rally sprint on August 2 at Maramarua. Next weekend after that I am flying down to Catlins to do that in an old school BDA Escort and then back up here on August 28 there is Hoddle Valley Road, which is one of the best rally sprint roads – it is an old international special stage and it is a grouse road. We did it last year and it is awesome to drive.

“Then we have three or four club rallies – Tauranga with some old Rally NZ stages like Manawahe, the City of Auckland Rally and Jack’s Ridge and then December 6 Hamilton Car Club are running Rally Waitomo and those are the roads I love the most.

“It will be very similar to the last couple of stages of the national championship round we had there last year and I enjoy them.”
