Five of the seven local clubs competing have made it through to the Fox Memorial Premiership after the final round of qualifying matches on Saturday.

The Manukau Magpies hammered the Pakuranga Jaguars 50-16 to ensure the latter would drop down to the Sharman Cup for the rest of the season.

It means the Magpies and fellow South Auckland side Mangere East Hawks advance from Pool A with the Pt Chevalier Pirates – the Hawks were on the receiving end of a 90-4 hiding at the hands of the Pirates on Saturday.

The Papakura Sea Eagles confirmed their spot in the Premiership with a 28-20 win over the Northcote Tigers in Pool C at Prince Edward Park.

The Otara Scorpions were the unlucky side to miss out in the highly-competitive Pool D as three teams finished on 1-2 records.

The Otahuhu Leopards went through unbeaten to top the pool with a 24-18 win over the Howick Hornets at Paparoa Park.

Te Atatu Roosters’ 48-4 win over the Scorpions at Jack Colvin Park was enough to edge them into the safe zone, as well as the Hornets, and see the Scorpions drop into the Sharman Cup.

The Scorpions and Jaguars will join other South Auckland teams the Papatoetoe Panthers and Manurewa Marlins in the Sharman Cup.

The Otara Scorpions Women have thrashed long-time competition heavy weights Manurewa Marlins 78-6 in the opening round.

Howick Hornets triumphed 38-10 over City Rugby League while the Mt Albert Lionesses proved too strong for Otahuhu Leopards 32-22.

All matches were played at Cornwall Park.
