Robinhood Stars defender Anna Harrison has made herself unavailable for a potential comeback to international netball with the Silver Ferns.

Harrison has come out of retirement to play for the Stars in the ANZ Premiership and has enjoyed a strong season.

“I never planned on coming back to the Silver Ferns. Coming into the Stars environment was a massive decision,” Harrison said.

“When you come out of retirement, one of the many worries is being able to perform to the level that I hold myself to and I’d be lying if i said I wasn’t absolutely chuffed that Noeline has said that I’m playing at a level to be considered for the Ferns, so I’m really stoked about that.”

The 38-year-old Harrison made her Silver Ferns debut in 2002 and amassed 88 appearances in the black dress, with her last outing against Wales in 2017.

Being the ultimate competitor she is – Harrison admits she did have to give the decision some thought.

“I’ve spent the past 20-plus years driving myself to be the best I can be in the black dress, so when someone gives you a sniff of it again, the ears prick up of the part of me that’s been doing that and willing myself to be the best I can be,”

“There are a lot of voices going on in my head, but there’s a more rational one that’s more in touch with the reality and it is telling me that I will not be available for the Silver Ferns.” Harrison explained.

Harrison and the table-topping Stars continue their ANZ Premiership campaign when they host the Tactix at Pulman Arena in Papakura at 7.15pm on Monday night, with tickets still available through Eventfinda and live coverage on Sky Sport 3.
