Tuakau 1 gained bragging rights over fellow club side Tuakau A after a 55-45 win in Premier Gold action at Pukekohe Netball Centre on Saturday.
It was the first win of the year for the top Tuakau side and one that they hope will springboard them into form as they roll out a new-look squad this season.
“It was a real confidence-boosting win for us,” coach Tracey Smith said. “It was a real battle between the younger, energetic players and the wise old heads.”
While the leading two sides from last year have made very strong starts to the competition, Smith is targeting beating the other teams in the grade.
“We are certainly aiming to be the best of the rest if you want to describe it like that,” she said.
“We have a talented group with a number of rep players in the side this year.”
Pythons V.S.N continued their impressive start to the 2022 season with a 63-43 win over Patumahoe Blue, which has opened up a six-point championship gap between the two unbeaten sides and the rest of the field.
Maramarua 1 kept pace with Pythons thanks to a brutal 83-9 hammering of Maramarua 2.
In Premier Silver, Patumahoe Teal had to work hard to keep their unbeaten start to the campaign – taking away a narrow 47-39 win over Patumahoe 1.
St Joseph’s Margies also remain unbeaten after they collected a comfortable 75-39 win over Patumahoe White.
Whitestar Phoenix edged Fusion Alpha 49-48 in a neck-and-neck game to score their second win of the season and keep the latter winless.
Te Kohanga Pango continued their dominant start to the Premier Bronze campaign as they claimed a 45-21 win over Maramarua 3.
Maramarua A had to work had to beat Fusion Warrior 23-14 while TK Rugby Gold got their first win of the year with a 40-24 triumph over Fusion Beta.
