Counties Manukau Cricket’s first ever day-night match will take place at Dr John Lightbody Reserve in Tuakau on Saturday.

In an historic first for the region the home side Tuakau will defend their top spot in Senior B against long-time rivals Glenbrook Maramarua in what is the first ever game played under lights in the region.

A white ball will be used for the match, rather than the traditional red used exclusively in that grade.

The two sides have a long-standing and healthy rivalry with a number of players having represented both clubs over the years.

It will be a vital contest with both sides currently sitting in the top four with the grade to split into two conferences based on results in a fortnight.

The match will feature some leading performers with Haydon Danford (Tuakau), Kieran West (Tuakau) and David Powell (Glenbrook Maramarua) all sitting among the leading run-scorers for the season.

Danford and Tuakau teammate Connor Wilson as well as Glenbrook Maramarua skipper Todd Williams all sit within the top 10 leading wicket-takers in the grade.

Not surprisingly Danford leads the grade’s MVP race.

There will be a BBQ and refreshments for players while a number of spectators will also be expected.
