Kiwi racing car driver Scott Dixon has opened the new Indycar season with a top 10 finish on the streets of St Petersburg.

The Manurewa product finished ninth in Monday’s season opener with his Chip Ganassi Racing outfit as he begins a quest for a record seventh series title.

American Josef Newgarden took a dominant win with fellow Kiwi Scott McLaughlin finishing third.

The series moves to Palm Springs in California for the second race in a fortnight.
