Counties Baseball has three nominees up for awards at the annual Counties Manukau Sport Sporting Excellence Awards.

Former player Jason Matthews has been nominated in the International Sportsperson category after a superb final season at college in the United States and a brilliant start to his professional career with the Great Lakes Voyagers.

Matthews will be up against motorsport stars Scott Dixon, Shane van Gisbergen and Liam Lawson.

Coach Mark Irwin is up for the Coach of the Year award having led Counties to third place at the Baseball New Zealand National Championships while he also coached various national and Auckland regional teams at home and abroad.

Son Taylor Irwin is up for Junior Sportsman of the Year having enjoyed a superb season with his Counties club, playing at both senior and age group level. He also represented New Zealand at U18 and U23 level and was recently signed to the Auckland Tuatara Pathways program.

The awards evening has been delayed due to the ongoing COVID outbreak.
