The Enviro NZ Franklin Bulls will have a new head coach in 2023 after confirmation Morgan Maskell has relinquished his position.

Maskell served as assistant coach to Jamie Reddish in 2021 before taking over the reins himself this year for the Sal’s NBL but they faded late to just miss the playoffs.

“The EnviroNZ Bulls would like to formally announce that head coach Morgan Maskell will not be returning in the role for 2023,” Bulls GM Scott Kelso said via a statement.

“The first-time head coach has decided to pursue other opportunities for 2023. The Bulls management will now look to fill the head coach role for the 2023 Sal’s NBL season.

“We’d like to wish coach Maskell all the best for his next role. We’d like to thank him for his service to the club and the team.”

The Bulls put together a quality roster but were eliminated from playoff contention in the final week of the regular season.

They battled injury and availability but ultimately under-delivered on their talent.

Crowds continue to grow however, and the community is clearly behind the team.

“We are always building,” Kelso said. “2023 is going to be a great season. We have so much to be proud of as a club and we know that Bulls fans will be excited to welcome a new coach to the helm.

“The Bulls once again celebrated successes including first ever wins over 2022 finalists the Saints, Giants and Hawks and being just two wins away from a finals berth.

“The Sal’s NBL is growing, and we are wanting to build on our local talent and take the next step in providing a chance for our local players to get on the court.”

The Bulls have already started the search and will look to make an announcement soon on players and coaching staff.
