Karaka strengthened their position atop the Pool B standings as they hammered Southern Districts by 180 runs in an all-local battle in the Spark Regional Cup.

Southern Districts inserted Karaka at Massey Park but the visitors made a good job of scoring 227 all out.

Sam Varcoe paced the innings with 72 while he was assisted by Leon Marconi (43 not out) and Navjot Sran (43).

George Williams was the pick of the home side bowlers with three wickets.

Only two batsmen made double figures as Karaka rolled Southern Districts for just 47. Michael Schofield, making a rare cameo appearance, took 4-4 from five overs.

Weymouth were unable to beat Marist Suburbs at Mountfort Park in Pool B.  The visitors won the toss and batted and scored 221-9 off their 50 overs.

Usman Ghani and Rohit Kumar each had three wickets for Weymouth.

The Weymouth run-chase went deep but they came up an agonising 11 runs short. Pankaj Kumar top scored with 61 not out while Rohit Kumar chipped in with 40.

Pukekohe Metro maintained their dominant position in Pool A after a comfortable 73-run win over Papakura.

The home side posted 256-9 off their 50 overs batting first. Opener Aue Parima hit 45 while lower order players Daniel Costello (44*) and David Kingham (41) helped push the total to a competitive number.

Mayank Sood claimed three wickets for Papakura.

Jonny Wilkinson was the chief destroyer, picking up four Papakura scalps as Pukekohe Metro bowled the visitors out for 183.

Manukau City continued to keep themselves in contention in Pool A as they claimed an eight wicket win over Melville at War Memorial Park in Manurewa.

Melville posted a competitive 253-8 batting first – Ben Hawkes and Pratik Lawande each collecting a pair of wickets.

Rikesh Patel’s unbeaten 97 ensured Manukau City reached the target in the 33rd over for the loss of only two wickets.

Flynn McGregor-Sumpter’s strong season continued with 48 while Tayden Smit contributed 39 and skipper Sandeep Patel 64 not out.
