Round four wins for Weymouth and Manukau City on Saturday have set up a thrilling final round in the W. H Taylor Shield one-day modified cricket competition.

Manukau City kept the competition alive by beating Pukekohe Metro by 53 runs at Bledisloe Park.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat, Manukau City scored 176 all out. Pratik Lawande top scored for the visitors with 33 as a number of his teammates got starts but couldn’t go on with them.

Veteran spinner Kurt Barnes was the pick of the Pukekohe Metro bowlers, claiming 5-27. Blair Lovett picked up three wickets as well.

Aue Parima (35 off 23) got the home side off to a fast start in reply but Pukekohe Metro lost three wickets for 14 runs after being 35-0.

Manukau City continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals – Rikesh Patel grabbed the stand-out figures of 5-29 to ensure Manukau City kept alive their chances of winning the competition next week.

Weymouth did their part in beating Southern Counties at Massey Park in Waiuku to give themselves a shot at picking up the trophy next weekend.

JayDee Sandhu Singh was the key figure for Weymouth as he powered the visitors to a formidable total thanks to his contribution of 119.

Karaka had to work hard to overcome Papakura by three wickets at Karaka Sports Complex.

Having won the toss and inserting Papakura, Karaka would have been well pleased when they had the visitors at 6-2 and again at 68-5 but 63 from Kumar Debajyoti Jena helped Papakura reach 220 all out.

Stu Kett was the star of the show for the home side, grabbing 7-43 off 12 overs.

Karaka got off to a poor start as they lost three wickets for just 19 runs, including the prized scalps of rep stars Sam Varcoe and Luke Williamson.

But in his 100th Premier game, Dan Power produced a brilliant match-winning 111 not out to guide his side to victory.

Manukau City travels to Waiuku to face Southern Counties in the final round while Weymouth heads to Bruce Pulman Park to play Papakura. Pukekohe Metro faces Karaka at Karaka Sports Complex with all three sides still in the running.
