The Waiau Pa Hockey Club have completed a memorable double by winning both the premier men’s and women’s championships at the Counties Manukau Hockey Centre on Saturday.

The Waiau Pa Pirates won the men’s premier grade after beating the Pukekohe Indian Sports Club 3-1 in the final, having won straight through to the final for topping pool play.

While the men were favourites heading into the decider, the Waiau Pa Pandas women’s team got to the final the hard way, having won through a semi-final showdown last week.

They edged top seeds Kohekohe 2-1 in the final on Saturday to claim the title.
