United have won the Premier 2 T20 competition final after beating previously unbeaten Weymouth by five runs in the final at Bruce Pulman Park.

United snuck into the final after edging Southern Districts and Karaka on net run rate but reversed their pool game result against Weymouth in the game that really matters.

Skipper Rajan Bhatia won the toss and opted to bat first as his side posted a total of 123 all out in 19 overs.

Harpreet Sran was the pick of the Weymouth bowlers with 3-24.

But United were able to restrict the Weymouth chase – holding them just short of the target at 118-9 off their 20 overs.

Bhatia took three wickets and bowled the nervous final over, with nine required to win.

It was great reward for the side that opted to make the step up in 2023-24 and enter the grade.

Earlier, Weymouth completed an unbeaten run through the pool stage to top the table after they beat United by six runs on Saturday.

Weymouth won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 175-7 off their 20 overs.

United came up just short with 169-4 off their allotted overs.

Rajan Bhatia was in the runs again with 79 off 44.

Karaka beat Pukekohe Metro by seven wickets in their match, ending any chance the former had of making the final.

Southern Districts eased to a comfy 46-run win over Papakura in the other match.

The Senior A competition got underway over the weekend with the Manukau Punjab Warriors claiming a first-up eight-wicket win over Manukau Fearless XI.

Pukekohe Metro proved too strong for the Papakura Heat side after winning the toss and posting 156 all out batting first. Papakura were all out for 119 in reply.

Weymouth Blue beat clubmates Weymouth Wolves by 96 runs.
