The Northern Stars have slumped to a 52-42 loss to the Mainland Tactix in their ANZ Premiership netball match at Horncastle Arena in Christchurch on Thursday night.

In front a 5,000-strong crowd – an all-time ANZ Premiership record – for the first game in the South Island since Covid-19 interrupted the season, the home side did not disappoint as they dominated three of the four quarters.

The Stars took an early lead but that was quickly erased despite another strong showing from in-form shooter Maia Wilson. She ended up making 35 of 41 attempts on the night.

The loss means the Stars drop their fourth-straight match and sit in fourth place on the ladder with three wins, a draw and seven losses.

They will look to snap the losing streak Saturday when they face the Southern Steel in Auckland.
