The South Auckland Raiders have edged the Takanini Giants 24-19 in their Auckland American Football match up on Saturday.

The Giants, in their debut season, were coming off their first ever victory a week earlier and took the game deep, right down to the final possession.

The Giants defence forced a fumble on the one yard line but the game finished before they could secure a final play to potentially steal the win.

The Tamaki Lightning remain at the top of the standings after they took care of the winless Papatoetoe Wildcats 12-7 in a close battle.

The Wildcats fall to 0-3 on the season but showed they are more than capable of beating the best teams and a first win can’t be far away.
