Patumahoe Prems and Maramarua 1 made the perfect start to their Premier Platinum competition at Pukekohe Netball Centre on Saturday.
With the leading sides returning from Regional Premier League and Counties Netball League competitions, the Premier Platinum grade was formed for the championship round.
Patumahoe Prems cruised to an 82-48 win over Pythons 1 while Maramarua 1 enjoyed a 62-39 win over Tuakau 1 on the opening weekend.
“It was a good hit out for our side and good to be back in Pukekohe,” Maramarua 1 coach Dwayne McNeil told Counties Sports Hub.
“We haven’t played any teams from Pukekohe for a long time, so it is good to come back from the Regional Premier League and play at home again.”
While McNeil’s Maramarua outfit, Tuakau 1 and Pythons 1 have been playing in the Regional Premier League against the best club sides in the Counties Manukau region, Patumahoe Prems have remained solely at Pukekohe, playing in the Premier Gold competition until now.
It makes them a bit of a dark horse.
“Our toughest competition will be Patumahoe Prems, and we play them this coming week so that will be a good test for us,” McNeil said.
“It is hard to get a good read on them as I haven’t seen them play.
“Both Tuakau and Pythons are capable of pushing us on their day.
“We did lose to Pythons earlier in the season and they are a good side.”
Patumahoe Blue beat Tuakau A 51-38 in Premier Gold action. Maramarua 2 edged Patumahoe Teal 45-38 while Pythons 2 beat Fusion Alpha 56-45.
In Premier Silver play Fusion Warrior edged TK Rugby Gold in a close-fought 43-41 win. Elsewhere Whitestar Phoenix proved too strong for St Josephs Margies 53-40 and Maramarua 3 beat Patumahoe 1 43-27.
Onewhero Onyx made a bright start to the Premier Bronze championship, collecting a narrow 34-32 win over St Josephs A.
Bombay Gold beat Patumahoe Yellow 46-23 and Maramarua A triumphed over Pukekohe Cossie 3 33-22.
