Long-time Pukekohe Metro cricketer Jimmy Ross has been appointed as the vice-president of Counties Manukau Cricket Association at their AGM on Monday night.

Ross was a tremendous servant to both Pukekohe Metro and Counties Manukau Cricket during his playing days and was honoured by the offer to become vice-president, filling the massive void left by the passing of legendary coach Alan Whimp a couple of months ago.

“I said this on the night that it is a huge honour to be appointed as vice-president, especially after Alan Whimp, who is an absolute legend of the sport, not just within Counties Manukau but right across New Zealand,” Ross told Counties Sports Hub.

“I want to thank the Counties Manukau Cricket Association board for the opportunity.”

Ross played approximately eight times for Counites Manukau in the late 1990s and early 2000s and spent three or four seasons as manager of the men’s Premier side.

Murray Napier stays on as president as he has done for the past few years while Kel Woolley remains as the organisation’s patron for the next year.

The AGM was conducted by Zoom with the Auckland region still under Level 3 lockdown rules.
