Manurewa AFC have scored a brilliant win in their first match in the Northern League after earning a 4-2 win away at Birkenhead United AFC in their 2023 opener.

Monty Patterson gave the visitors an early lead before Birkenhead United drew level in the 45th minute in a tight affair at McFetridge Park on Sunday.

Second half goals from Patterson and Nicolas Bobadilla ensured Manurewa got a first up win.

Goals from Boon Ozawa and Kentaro Ozaki weren’t enough to get Manukau United a result in their match against Bay Olympic at Olympic Park.

The home side claimed a 3-2 win thanks to a late goal just prior to the final whistle.

Onehunga Mangere United dropped their first match of the LOTTO NRFL Men’s Championship – a 1-0 loss to Northern Rovers at McFetridge Park on Saturday.

Beachlands Maraetai came from a goal down early to beat Franklin United 2-1 in a physical encounter at Bledisloe Park in Pukekohe in their NRFL Men’s Northern Conference clash.

Tim Richardson opened the scoring for the home side in the 21st minute from the penalty spot before Will South equalised six minutes later.

Jesse Dawson put Beachlands Maraetai in front in the 44th minute and the score did not change in the second spell.

South Auckland Rangers got their NRF Men’s League One season off to a winning start, beating fellow South Auckland outfit Papatoetoe AFC 1-0 at Murdoch Park.

Netani Doli scored the match winner not long before fulltime.

Papakura City meanwhile secured a 3-1 win at home to Ranui Swanson at McLennan Park.

Logan Dixon, Cory Mackay and Argyle Morling found the back of the net for Papakura.

Manukau United and Franklin United drew 2-2 to grab a point each in their LOTTO NRFL Women’s Championship opener on Sunday.

Chloe Marthe scored a double for Franklin United with goals in the seventh minute and 52nd minute before Manukau United bounced back on the hour mark with a goal to Tineke de Jong.

Ashley Porter levelled the scores in the 68th minute from the penalty spot.

Onehunga Sports grabbed a point with a 2-2 draw against Otumoetai FC in Tauranga – Maggie Anderson and Tessa Blakeborough grabbing the goals.

Beachlands Maraetai picked up a 2-2 draw with Metro FC in their NRF Women’s Conference match.

Onehunga Mangere United were on the receiving end of a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Bay Olympic.
